Manchester United are closing in on a new deal for Kobbie Mainoo after settling on a pay package for the young midfielder.
After Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, there’s more positive news that the club is making progress on the contract front.
United announced a new deal for Harry Maguire during a four-day training camp in Ireland, with the experienced centre-back given a one-year deal with the option of extending that by a further year.
The attention has since turned to Kobbie Mainoo, who has been in talks over a long-term deal for a long time.

Man Utd plan to announce Kobbie Mainoo deal this season
Mainoo faced an uncertain future at Old Trafford before Michael Carrick was appointed interim head coach.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a resurgence since then, after being overlooked by Ruben Amorim and given a new lease of life under Carrick.
According to The Sun, United are aiming to announce a new contract for Mainoo before the end of the season.
It is understood that progress was made in the latest round of discussions over the last week. All parties believe an announcement is close.
The report adds that United have verbally agreed a five-year deal with Mainoo, who is set for a significant pay rise from his last renewal in 2023 when he was only 17.
Mainoo is set to pocket around £150,000-a-week to reflect his status as a starter in the team.
United are currently looking for midfielders to partner Mainoo in midfield next season, with Casemiro’s exit announced in January.
Mainoo enjoyed a masterclass display against Chelsea last time out. The England international will be aiming to build on that against Brentford, after missing out on the defeat to Leeds.
It’s a huge boost for United that Mainoo has committed his long-term future to the club.

What Michael Carrick said about Kobbie Mainoo after win over Chelsea
Carrick was impressed by Mainoo’s display against Chelsea.
Mainoo partnered Casemiro in the middle of the pitch and looked like one of United’s best players.
“To step up and put so many phases to his game or sides to his game,” Carrick said.
“I thought he looked so composed, so calm, had a real good presence about him, defended well.
“Not easy when you’ve got really good players around you, and it was a good battle between him and Cole Palmer.
“So he had to be right at it tonight. He showed so much quality and composure in a tough environment, really, in the end to show us what he can do.
“He only did a little (training), really. A little bit on Thursday and a little bit more yesterday, so it wasn’t an awful lot.
“So again credit to him for stepping into that one.”
