Young Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is less of a future star and more of an instant one.
Kobbie Mainoo was one of the players who really stood out during Manchester United’s run to win the FA Youth Cup in 2022.
Mainoo’s silky smooth ability on the ball earned comparisons at the time with a young Paul Pogba. While he lacked the Frenchman’s height and gangly frame, he demonstrated a remarkable touch and knack of getting out of tight spots.
While Pogba’s first team career at Manchester United did not live up to very lofty expectations, for various reasons, there is hope Mainoo will be different, and more loyal.

Kobbie Mainoo shows quality
At 18, Kobbie Mainoo has done what Paul Pogba could not manage; establish himself as a Manchester United first team player.
Mainoo is his own player in his own style, but one element of his game against Luton really stood out.
He completed six dribbles in the win over Luton, compared to five from the rest of the team.
Per Opta, he is the first Manchester United player since Paul Pogba in 2022 to complete six dribbles or more in a single game. Pogba did so with seven dribbles in a win over Norwich.
This is an impressive feat and shows Mainoo’s quality – although, you also have to look at United’s wingers during this period, who have failed to excel.
Mainoo expected to sign new deal
Manchester United lost Pogba early in his career when he left on a free transfer to go and sign with Juventus.
There is no danger of this at present. Manchester United have learned, with Mainoo under contract until 2027.
Fabrizio Romano reports via YouTube that initial talks have been held with Mainoo’ has been offered a new contract’s representatives over a new deal. United are taking no chances and want to tie him down for even longer, and on better terms.
