Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho were two players that Erik ten Hag blossomed for Manchester United.
Say what you want about the Dutchman, but one thing he did well for Manchester United was bringing through youth.
Ten Hag gave numerous academy graduates their United debuts, including Kobbie Mainoo – who may be the finest of them all. He also continued to assist Garnacho’s growth, which should be commended.
They will have been upset to see the Manchester United manager finally go – as showcased in social media posts.

Kobbie Mainoo reacts to Erik ten Hag sacking
Mainoo took to Instagram to bid farewell to the manager who gave him his debut, with some very touching words.
‘Thank you for your trust and belief in me and for giving me the opportunity to play for my boyhood club. I wish you all the best for the future.’
Mainoo made his Manchester United debut under Ten Hag at the start of 2023 against Charlton Athletic in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils won the fixture 3-0, with an Antony strike and a Marcus Rashford double the difference. The rest is history for Kobbie.
Ten Hag was a major catalyst in unearthing and trusting Mainoo, and will always be remembered for this – despite the way things ended.
Alejandro Garnacho sends message to Erik ten Hag
Garnacho, like Mainoo, also took to Instagram. The Argentine flourished under Ten Hag and cemented himself as an integral United first-team squad player under the Dutchman.
He wrote: ‘Thank you for everything, boss. I will always be grateful to you for giving me the opportunity and the confidence to play for this club.’
‘It hasn’t gone as well as we wanted, but I will remember the good times we had together and I wish you all the best in the future. Thank you very much Erik.’
Almost identical messages. The pair are someone in debt to the Dutchman, and moving forward, at least Ten Hag will know he had a massively positive impact on the future of the club by developing these two world-beaters.
