Sam Mather is looking for opportunities elsewhere after failing to play a single minute of football since October in Manchester United’s academy.
It has been a challenging season for most at Manchester United.
The first team are sitting just outside the top four, with 30 points from 19 Premier League matches, and it’s clear that Ruben Amorim’s side is still in a heavy transition.
Patience is required because the first-team squad is being rebuilt with each passing transfer window, with Amorim recently handing out debuts to Academy graduates due to injuries and absences at AFCON.
In some cases, it’s been a great season. Just ask Jack Fletcher, who recently made his United debut, as well as another Premier League appearance, in the disappointing 1-1 draw against Wolves.
Who is next in line to graduate from Manchester United’s academy in 2026?
More youngsters are hoping to make their United debuts in 2026, while other academy prospects are looking to move on with their careers elsewhere.

Sam Mather set to leave Manchester United
It feels as though Sam Mather has been left out in the cold at United.
When Mather’s summer exit plans collapsed, the left winger returned to play for United’s U21s, but he has not featured since October.
This has led to questions about the winger’s future because Mather was previously wanted by teams across the continent.
A fresh report from the Manchester Evening News claims Turkish club Kayserispor have submitted a bid to sign Mather on a permanent deal.
However, it is not believed to be Kayserispor’s first offer for the 21-year-old prospect. A deal to take Mather to Turkey failed to materialise in the summer.
The Manchester Evening News understands that talks are underway between Mather and Kayserispor.
Mather hopes to get his deal completed by the time Kayserispor begin their winter training camp next week.
What has impressed you about Jack Fletcher since he made his debut?
Where does he need to improve? How can Ruben Amorim help him?
Sam Mather has been at Man Utd since 2010
Mather has spent most of his life at United, so it will be difficult for the youngster to leave.
The Salford-born star now has a chance to make a splash in the professional game after spending his earlier years developing at United.
Mather has been at United since 2010, when he was a six-year-old boy, only to make the debut for the U18s a decade later.
Erik ten Hag gave Mather a new deal in 2024, and it could prove to be the final contract he signed at the club.
