Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema reached out to congratulate Raphael Varane after the defender’s first Manchester United goal.
Varane scored United’s final home game of 2021/22, turning in a corner from an Alex Telles delivery.
The centre-back’s goal came after Bruno Fernandes had scored his first goal since February to open the scoring, before Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty.
While Ronaldo’s goal has become routine, Varane’s was more of a rarity, coming on his 28th goal for the club.

Varane’s goal came at great personal satisfaction for him, ending the season on a high, and to top if off, Manchester United were able to keep a rare clean sheet too in the 3-0 victory.
The defender sent a message out hailing the ‘special feeling’ after the match, before international teammate and former Real Madrid pal Karim Benzema sent him a response.

Benzema himself is enjoying an outstanding season, his best ever, with 42 goals in 42 games in all competitions, helping Real Madrid to the La Liga title.
14 of his goals have come in 10 Champions League games, and he has a big match this week, taking on United’s rivals Manchester City. Varane may privately be sending him a few words of encouragement.
If Sir Alex Ferguson had it his way, Benzema and Varane would both have been Manchester United players years ago. Instead the pair went on to win four Champions League medals alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu.
