Juan Mata sends message to Manchester United star after dramatic win

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has received all the plaudits following his superb substitute performance against Brentford.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United were a goal down going into stoppage time but Scott McTominay was the man who saved the Dutchman’s skin.

The Scottish midfielder has had limited chances under Ten Hag since the Dutchman was appointed as the manager and it seemed like he was on his way out of the club this summer.

However, the midfielder stayed and he may have scored two of the most important goals of the season and the gloom around the club may well be beginning to come to an end, much to the club’s relief.

Former United player praises McTominay

United’s official Instagram account posted about the midfielder’s goal following his superb, match-winning performance and a former United player has been quick to praise the 26-year-old.

Juan Mata, who left United last summer following the appointment of Ten Hag, left a lovely message for the 26-year-old.

“You deserve it @scottmctominay,” Mata wrote on United’s Instagram page.

The midfielder has certainly had to wait for his opportunities in the first team and you wonder if Ten Hag will begin to deploy McTominay more often in the United first team.

Should McTominay get more opportunities

It’s quite clear that McTominay’s superb cameo will surely mean that the former Ajax boss has some thinking to do when the Premier League season resumes after the international break.

McTominay, based on his cameo, surely deserves a first-team opportunity but the midfielder should be deployed further forward to play to his strengths which is seemingly his finishing ability.

For too long now the Scotsman has been deployed at the base of midfield and has received criticism for not wanting the ball in these deeper areas,

However, the 26-year-old is certainly a more accomplished and well-rounded player when pushed further forward and would need to be played there to highlight his obvious strengths in front of goal.
