Jose Mourinho has shared his thoughts on Manchester United after his former club suffered their worst Premier League campaign in 2024/25.
It’s gearing up to be a massive season for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. The Portuguese coach endured a difficult first six months at Old Trafford and is looking to turn things around in his first full season as head coach.
The pain from last season still exists as United lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and finished 15th in the Premier League.
Amorim was unable to steady the ship after Erik ten Hag was sacked in October, but the pressure will increase if United are unable to get results in the upcoming season.
Pre-season began last weekend with a scoreless draw against Leeds in Sweden. Since then, United’s first team has travelled to the United States for the next stage of their pre-season tour.

It’s been over a year since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner at United.
As a minority stakeholder, Ratcliffe and his Ineos chiefs have taken control of football operations, spearheading big decisions on recruitment and Old Trafford amid plans for a new stadium.
Former United manager Jose Mourinho has aimed at Ratcliffe for lacking the experience required to make a positive change at the football club.
Mourinho knows what it is like to manage United during a difficult period, especially after developing a frosty relationship with former chief executive Ed Woodward, and he was sacked in 2018 after picking up just 26 points from 17 games.
That said, Mourinho delivered two trophies at United and finished runners-up in the Premier League in 2017/18.
The current Fenerbahce boss has suggested that Ratcliffe’s lack of footballing experience could hinder United in the future. Speaking to Record, Mourinho said: “Today, I think that with the change in ownership at the club, with an owner who doesn’t have much experience in football but rather in sport.
“What happened to Ruben, from being the manager of the worst ManchesterUnited in Premier League history to having continuity and confidence to continue and be Ruben Amorim, is a sign that a lot needs to change.”
Mourinho outlines the need for change, and Ineos face a race against time to prepare the team in the best way possible to succeed next season.

Mourinho has always been supportive of Amorim, especially since he became United’s head coach last season.
Speaking about his counterpart again, Mourinho expressed his belief that Amorim has “incredible potential” to be a success at Old Trafford and urged the club to continue supporting him.
Mourinho believes United and Amorim need stability.
He added: “With that stability… We all agree that he’s a manager with great potential and personality. I think he has incredible potential to do great work.”
United fans remain hopeful that Amorim is the right man to take the team forward.
