Jordan Henderson sends message sticking up for England teammate Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire was booed by sections of England fans at Wembley and his manager and teammates were not impressed.

Gareth Southgate told Sky Sports that the reaction was an ‘absolute joke’ and called on the England fans to be more unified.

The players were not happy with the crowd, and Maguire’s England teammate Jordan Henderson hit out.

When the Manchester United captain has the Liverpool captain sticking up for him, England fans should realise they messed up.

Henderson says he cannot get his head around it, and called the booing ‘just wrong’.

The boos soured a decent night for England, a 3-0 win over Ivory Coast.

The treatment of Maguire is indicative of the stick he receives on social media amid a poor season.

Maguire and United have disappointed as a whole, but England fans have no reason to be displeased with Maguire, he has played a key role in runs to the World Cup semi final and the Euro 2020 final.

The boos were no doubt from an anti-United agenda, and while Maguire has not had a great individual season this year, United will now rally around him.

United fans can’t pretend to be clean over this of course. There was ironic applause at Old Trafford when he was substituted late on against Atletico Madrid amid a poor performance.

But when England fans ‘zig’ expect United fans to ‘zag’ in response. Henderson’s message shows the criticism is getting out of hand, and Maguire will be encouraged at Old Trafford and backed on Saturday.
