John Murtough hails ‘exceptional’ Manchester United signing Casemiro

Last night may well be when the Erik ten Hag era sparked into life but it was also the evening when Casemiro signed for Manchester United.

United confirmed the Brazilian’s arrival from Real Madrid before kick-off and he watched his new teammates beat Liverpool 2-1.

He shared a brief chat with legendary former United midfielder Roy Keane, who he will be looking to emulate in the centre of the park.

The outlook appears more rosy at Old Trafford now, and Casemiro may well hope to make his debut on Saturday against Southampton.

United’s director of football John Murtough has spoken to the club’s official website about Casemiro, saying: “Casemiro is a serial winner and one of the best midfielders in world football; his exceptional record speaks for itself.

“He compliments the skillsets of the squad and will be a great addition to the dressing room with his experience, knowledge and character.

“I know that Casemiro remains as determined as ever to be successful on the pitch and we look forward seeing that happen in a Manchester United shirt.”

United have needed an elite defensive midfielder for a long period of time now and they have finally got one through the door.

He knows what it takes to win the biggest trophies in the game and is right in the prime of his career at 30 years of age.

Casemiro’s arrival should add to the boost that the squad got from last night’s result, but the key is keeping the momentum going now.

United have not won away from home in the Premier League since late February and that needs to change swiftly under Ten Hag.

Casemiro’s steel in the engine room can help United look harder to beat on the road and Murtough clearly thinks he has landed his manager a gem.
