Joao Gomes has already named his dream Premier League destination amid Manchester United transfer speculation – but it’s not Old Trafford.

Gomes has been linked with a Manchester United move, according to recent reports, with the midfielder a potential long-term Casemiro replacement in the Red Devils’ conquest for a six.

The 24-year-old has been a staple in the Wolves side since 2023, joining from Flamengo in a £15m deal, after lighting up the Brazilian league.

It was here that Premier League clubs first took notice, but amid transfer speculation, the Brazilian made his intentions to move to England clear.

Joao Gomes previously wanted a Liverpool move

During his time at his former club, Gomes stated his dream move would be to Manchester United’s bitter rivals, Liverpool.

He told ESPN in September 2022 that he had the “greatest desire” to make the switch to Anfield before he ended up at Molineux.

To add insult to injury for the Red Devils, Gomes further added that “playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football”. Something, of course, United don’t currently have under Ruben Amorim.

That said, a lot has changed in three years, and the now 24-year-old’s mindset may be different.

Matheus Cunha could sway Gomes

The arrival of Matheus Cunha at Manchester United is now a catalyst, with the pair forming a very strong bond together at Wolves.

The bond not only materialised on the pitch, but off it – as the video below depicts the ‘brotherly relationship’ between the pair.

When Cunha left Molineux, he even gifted a Rolex watch to Gomes as a leaving gift. Classy from the Brazilian.

Whether Gomes moves to United remains to be seen – but where there is Cunha, there is hope for United.
