James Garner pictured back in training for United in Australia

James Garner has been pictured back in training after missing Manchester United’s match against Liverpool in midweek.

Garner was not even on the bench, with The MEN reporting he had picked up a knock and missed training ahead of the clash in Thailand. Now he is back training with the rest of the squad.

James Garner was pictured back in training at the AAMI Park Stadium ahead of Friday’s match against Melbourne Victory.

Garner will aim to pick up his first minutes of pre-season in the match, and try to make an impression on new manager Erik ten Hag. But he will have to fully satisfy his manager in terms of fitness first.

There are two subsequent tour matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, and while games are important to build fitness up, there is no need to take risks either.

Garner, 21, is returning to the United squad after a season long loan at Nottingham Forest.

He has good memories of playing in Australia, scoring in pre-season in 2019 against Perth Glory in a 2-0 victory. He also played in a 4-0 win over Leeds.

Another goal would be a great way to re-announce himself to the United squad, and set him up for a season of success.

United’s players have set a high bar with an opening win in pre-season against Liverpool, winning 4-0, and there is likely to be plenty of rotation against Melbourne Victory.

Hannibal, Ethan Laird and Tahith Chong could all see minutes as they look to get their pre-season campaigns underway.
