The January transfer window is fast approaching and Jadon Sancho is a man who has been linked with Manchester United for months now.
Last week, the Daily Mirror reported that United are increasingly confident of signing the Borussia Dortmund wideman.
His red hot form shows why United want him so badly. He has now scored in seven games in a row.
Seven in a row
Dortmund drew 3-3 with RB Leipzig last night, in a meeting between third and first in the Bundesliga.
Sancho found the back of the net and laid on an assist, meaning he has now scored in seven consecutive matches across all competitions (WhoScored).
The winger lost his place in the England starting eleven to Marcus Rashford earlier this season and there was talk of him losing form too.
But his absolutely rampant run in front of goal shows he is not a one-season wonder.
In total he has 12 goals and 11 assists for Dortmund this season.
Sancho limped off with a second half injury but his post-match Instagram update indicated it won’t be anything which prevents a January switch.
Euro 2020 will likely influence Sancho’s thinking
Making a January move just months before what should be Sancho’s first major tournament with England would represent a risk.
Injury permitting, he is a shoo-in to be in Gareth Southgate’s party during the summer right now, especially given his current form.
But if he makes a move and struggles between now and the end of the season, Sancho may be wary of dropping out of the 23 altogether or being viewed as a bench option rather than a starter.
International players only tend to make moves shortly before summer tournaments in order to get the gametime to force themselves into their country’s squad.
But Sancho is playing regularly and scoring goals so he may decide to put the risk of a move off until after the Three Lions’ bid for summer glory is finished.
