Sancho makes key breakthrough

Sancho’s assist was his first since March, when he assisted Cristiano Ronaldo in the 3-2 win over Tottenham.

He thought he had broken his drought a week earlier against Omonia by setting up Scott McTominay’s goal, but he was not officially credited with the assist.

So Sancho will be particularly pleased to get off the mark for this season, he is a natural creator and so this long spell without any assists has shown that he hasn’t quite been clicking. Sancho has also scored three goals this season.

This performance was one of Sancho’s best creative displays since joining Manchester United.

He created five goalscoring chances in the win over Tottenham, his highest creative performance of the season.

He did so while completed 40 of 45 passes, and showing more desire to take players on than he did in previous matches.

This performance should be a marker for Sancho in terms of what he can be capable of, and United will look to him to repeat it, and let his assist tally surge like it did when he was at Dortmund.

A man for big moments

Sancho’s assist for Fred’s opener showed he is a player Manchester United can expect to step up at big moments.

He scored the opening goal in Manchester United’s win over Liverpool, and played a key role in last night’s win.

This weekend he heads to Stamford Bridge, a stadium he scored United’s opening goal at last season.

Sancho is still learning, getting better, and is only 22. There is a lot more to come, and last night was an important step in the right direction.
