Jadon Sancho was left out of the England squad for the upcoming international fixtures, a perplexing decision.

Jack Grealish was preferred, despite failing to score this season, while fellow attackers Bukayo Saka and Mason Mount have one goal combined.

Sancho gave an immediate response to the axe, scoring the opening goal for Manchester United in a win over Sheriff Tiraspol, his third goal of the season.

He almost had another goal, with a later first half effort beating the goalkeeper before it was cleared off the line.

Sancho has become even more dangerous

Sancho is a top talent, not yet a superstar, but a true rising star of the global game. He can really take his career to a new level at the World Cup later this year, if given the chance.

This latest snub from Gareth Southgate is a real problem for Sancho’s ambitions, leaving him out of the final international squad before the tournament. He also missed the June internationals.

Sancho now has extra, added motivation to take his form to a new level, adding a bit of fire to his game. He will want to be playing so well that he can’t possibly be left out again.

It said a lot about his character that he scored the opening goal for Manchester United last night just hours after his latest snub.

Manchester United can be the big winners from this. In fact it’s great news if Sancho continues to respond in the right way.

United will get an especially motivated Sancho over a busy month of October, for which he is now going to go into totally rested.

Sancho will be fresh ahead of the Premier League returning next month against former club Manchester City, a match in which he will already have his own personal motivations for wanting to excel.

The 22-year-old is United’s joint top goalscorer with three goals, previously netting against Liverpool and Leicester before last night.

He has become even more dangerous, and if he is left out of the World Cup squad later this year, he will have an even bigger sense of purpose in 2023, to go on and prove a point.
