Ipswich Town star Jack Taylor names two Manchester United legends he idolised

Jack Taylor reveals he is a Manchester United fan ahead of Ipswich Town’s trip to Old Trafford.

Manchester United welcome Ipswich Town to Old Trafford on Wednesday night in the Premier League.

There was no shortage of drama last time out as Manchester United drew 2-2 against Everton on their final-ever trip to Goodison Park.

Ruben Amorim’s side came from 2-0 down to level to scoring thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte. The overall performance was concerning because it took United 70 minutes to wake up.

United are currently 15^th in the Premier League. To make matters worse, they won’t be involved in the top four race. The only way United can qualify for the Champions League is by winning the Europa League.

Jack Taylor excited to face Manchester United

United are just 13 points clear of 17^th-placed Ipswich Town.

When both teams met at Portman Road earlier in the season, the game ended 1-1 following an opening goal by Marcus Rashford, who has since been sent on loan to Aston Villa.

Ipswich Town midfielder Jack Taylor has previewed the game by promising that the Tractor Boys, managed by former United coach Kieran McKenna, won’t have any fear when they take on ‘the pinnacle of English football’.

Taylor also added that there is a further reason for him to relish the opportunity of playing at Old Trafford.

Speaking about the game on Wednesday, Taylor said (quotes via Forbes): “No matter who we’re going to face that’s the mentality, to go into any game without any fear. If we bring the best account of ourselves we’ve got a lot of dangerous players and I think we can hurt them.

“It’s the pinnacle of English football and has been for many years now. It’s another game to look forward to and bring the best account of ourselves on the biggest stage.

“We also know that they’ve got really quality players and they can turn it on when they want. They’re obviously going through a tough patch at the minute so you could say it’s the right time to play them.

“You don’t expect them to be that low down in the table and being a fan myself I’ve still been watching them a little bit. They’ve got a new manager, a new system and things going on behind closed doors that I don’t think a lot of people know about.

“They’re trying to rebuild and I think they will get there with the right manager and hopefully they stick by him. They’ve got great threats that we’ll be ready for but there’s a lot of ways that we can hurt them.”

Taylor puts Manchester United loyalties aside

Although playing at Old Trafford will see Taylor live a childhood dream, the midfielder has pledged his commitment to Ipswich ahead of the game.

He also spoke about his Dad being a big United fan from Salford.

“It will be [a dream] but it’s gone past being a fan now when you’re playing for yourself. I love this club as well so I’m going to do everything I can to try and get the win.

“My dad’s side of the family are all from Salford and are big United fans. They’ve got a lot of season tickets so they’ve not asked for a lot of away tickets but they’ll be a lot of my family there.

“My dad’s a season ticket holder. I’ve been playing games for my career so it’s been tough to get up there, but there were a couple of games I went to in the Europa League on a Thursday night while I was at Peterborough.”

Taylor went on to reveal two former United players he idolised as a kid, including Wayne Rooney.

“I loved [Paul] Scholes when he was in his prime,” Taylor added. “[Wayne] Rooney as well – those two were a joy to watch.”
