Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana.

After weeks of back and forth negotiating with Inter Milan, an agreement has been reached.

The Athletic report Manchester United will pay £43.9 million plus £3 million in add-ons.

Andre Onana will undergo a medical with Manchester United keen to have the goalkeeper join up for the pre-season tour of the USA.

United In Focus writer verdict

Jonny Maze: “Signing Andre Onana in replacement of David de Gea isn’t just evolution, it is revolution.

“The qualities that Onana will bring to United are game changing; his passing range, on-ball confidence, bravery and athleticism are all qualities we have lacked between the sticks. Very, very excited about this signing, the best we have made in years.”

Shaun Webbley: “United pulling off the signing of Andre Onana for me, unless we somehow sign Harry Kane, excites me more than any other signing we could make this summer.

“He is a goalkeeper with fantastic ability on the ball, a fantastic presence in the area, and his saving isn’t too bad either!

“With a 76% save percentage in the league, he’s a superb shot-stopper. He is the perfect replacement for David De Gea and, to me, offers more in possession than the Spaniard ever could under Erik Ten Hag. For a relatively decent fee, if reports are to be believed, this is a superb signing for United.”

Dan Coombs: “I’m excited. I’ve been saying for a couple of years now that with respect, we need to move on from David de Gea.

“Onana looks like he would genuinely transform the way we play, and benefit every single part of the team. It’s time to move forward, and Ten Hag knows what he is getting. Now let’s sign a striker or two…”

Manchester United fill another key need

Erik ten Hag has acted decisively to get a deal for Andre Onana tied up, bringing in his former Ajax goalkeeper as a replacement for David de Gea.

This is the club’s second signing of the summer after Mason Mount arrived, with both players signed for just under £100 million.

There is one glaring need left, striker. This is where United are expected to focus attention next. The rest of the team looks deep in quality, and that’s all well and good, so long as another goalscorer comes along to take the pressure off Marcus Rashford.
