Manchester United fans were lost for words after one England international made Thomas Tuchel’s 24-man squad pick ahead of wantaway midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

England manager Thomas Tuchel on Friday revealed the players who have been called up for international duty with the Three Lions during the September break.

The Three Lions are set to play two forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches, with Tuchel’s men first facing Andorra in their match at Villa Park on 6th September.

Following the Group K clash against Andorra, the Euro 2024 finalists will travel to Belgrade and will face Serbia at the Rajko Mitic Stadium on 9th September.

England are currently top of Group K and are four points clear of second-place Albania, with the Three Lions winning all three of their qualifying matches.

Kobbie Mainoo had been a mainstay in the England senior team after he was called up to the squad under Sir Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after Euro 2024.

Man Utd fans’ reaction to Thomas Tuchel leaving England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo out of the Three Lions squad speaks volumes

England’s official website has confirmed that the 24 Three Lions players called up to the squad will report to St George’s Park next week for international duty.

Thomas Tuchel did not include Kobbie Mainoo in his England squad, but the Three Lions boss did pick former Liverpool and Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson.

Manchester United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, slammed the decision to pick Brentford star Jordan Henderson ahead of Mainoo.

“Henderson? I [can] see why Mainoo wants to leave,” one Red Devils supporter wrote.

Another United fan said: “You see Henderson in the team and people wonder why Mainoo wants to leave.”

Someone else tweeted: “No Mainoo is so gutting, TBH. Guy went from one of our best players in the Euros to now not getting minutes in a terrible [midfield]. Henderson is laughable, too.”

“Henderson over Mainoo is criminal,” another simply argued.

While a fifth added: “If Mainoo had been a starter, there’s no way [Jordan] Henderson would have been picked before him.”

And a sixth posted: “Mainoo should be picked over Henderson.”

“Jordan Henderson [is] still getting call-ups. You can understand why Mainoo wants to leave,” somebody else claimed.

An eighth X user simply suggested: “Henderson instead of Mainoo is insane.”

Mainoo stunned United fans on Thursday after it emerged that the 20-year-old Stockport-born midfielder had asked to leave Old Trafford this summer.

It has been reported that the United youth academy product wants to stay at the Premier League for the long term and is only seeking a loan move away.

Mainoo wants to secure regular first-team football in the 2025-26 campaign and keep himself on the radar of Tuchel for the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

However, United have told Mainoo that they have no intention of loaning him out this summer and want the England star to fight for his place at Old Trafford.
