Injury update on Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof went straight down the tunnel when he was substituted during the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Brentford.

The Swedish defender looked to have been carrying an injury when he landed awkwardly with Sofyan Amrabat during the game.

It’s fair to say that Victor Lindelof has had a rather indifferent start to the season and looks to be physically struggling so far this season.

During the back end of last season, the Swedish defender lined up alongside Raphael Varane and looked secure alongside the Frenchman.

Lindelof scored the winning penalty in the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite his poor performances this season, the defender has been important for the Red Devils as he is seemingly the only one who can stay fit.

Lisandro Martinez, Varane and Harry Maguire have had their injury problems but the Swede may now be suffering issues of his own.

Janne Andersson, the Swedish national team coached, was asked by Aftonbladet about the fitness of the former Benfica defender.

“I have had contact with Lindelof. Hopefully, there won’t be any major problems, but I don’t dare say that for sure,” Andersson said.

“I do not have the medical team’s assessment, tonight I will find out exactly how it is.”

As well as this, Andersson says there are still ‘question marks’ around the fitness of the defender.

Lindelof needs dropping

This injury may well be a blessing in disguise for Erik Ten Hag as the defender certainly needs to be dropped following a string of tepid performances.

Maguire and Jonny Evans looked secure at the back and Varane’s minor injury issue that kept him out of the Brentford win is not thought to be serious.

After the impressive performance of Maguire and Evans, Ten Hag may well not be too worried about the fitness of the Swede as he already has more than capable options at the heart of the defence.
