Manchester United may have some of the best young strikers in Europe, but reports linking them with reinforcements continue.
Of all the forwards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tipped to sign, the list should be reduced to one. According to the Star, United are increasingly confident of striking a deal for the Frenchman this summer, and it would be a wonderful move for all concerned.
Dembele is everything United look for in a summer signing. He is young, he is hungry, he is extremely talented and – perhaps most importantly – he seemingly wants the move.
Just like Bruno Fernandes before him, United could benefit from a player who is ready to step up and sees Old Trafford as the ideal stage.
This looks set to be a long summer and United could well consider a number of options. But it really should be Dembele or no one. With the option of signing Odion Ighalo in a permanent move, there is no desperate need for the club to spend huge sums on any old striker.
Mason Greenwood is only going to get better, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial thrive when paired together. Dembele would complete that area and give United an attacking quartet as fearsome as their class of ’99.
If United can drive down Dembele’s reported £60million fee, all the better. Solskjaer has a great record in the transfer market since taking the reins and bringing in Dembele would make it five from five.
