Ian Wright slams Manchester United’s decision not to sign £38 million star with six Premier League goals

Ian Wright has slammed Manchester United and Erik ten Hag’s decision to sign Antony and has questioned why the Red Devils didn’t target another Premier League star.

The pressure on Erik ten Hag this season has increased ten-fold as Manchester United struggle for consistency in the Premier League and are cut adrift from the Champions League places.

After yet another defeat in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag cut a forlorn figure in the East Midlands and fans are losing patience with the Dutchman.

The signings that ten Hag made this summer and last summer were to challenge for the league title but that has failed to occur and one purchase in particular has struggled.

Wright on Antony and Kudus

Speaking to Premier League Productions, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has questioned the signing of Brazilian winger Antony, who has failed to score or assist in 16 league games this season.

As well as being critical of the Brazilian, Wright was baffled as to why United didn’t push to sign Edson Alvarez or Mohammed Kudus, who are both shining at West Ham United this season.

“Two players in Alvarez and Kudus he had himself and it’s baffling to me that you do sign Antony over Kudus,” Wright said.

“I don’t think we have needed to see too many games where you look at Kudus’ output to Antony’s output and then think ‘How can you choose this guy over this guy? When this guy is definitely doing a lot more’. The same with Alvarez.

“Those are the signings you look back on that ten Hag has made and think ‘What is going on there?’ It just doesn’t seem right to me.”

Missing out on Kudus has been costly

Kudus netted against United in the Hammers’ 2-0 win over the Red Devils following a mistake from Kobbie Mainoo and it looks as if the Red Devils made another costly error by missing out on the Ghanaian.

Kudus has 13 goals in all competitions, including 6 in the Premier League, meanwhile, Antony, as mentioned, has failed to score or assist this season.

For all the players that Ten Hag has signed from his former club, to not attempt to sign Kudus, who could have solved the Red Devils’ right-wing problems is rather bizarre to say the least.
