‘I see a bad spell coming’… Gary Lineker and Micah Richards brutally agree over major problem at Man Utd

Manchester United may have started 2024 off with just one loss in two months, but that doesn’t tell the entire story.

Results have turned around this side of the new year, with a run of wins leading Manchester United to close the gap on the top four.

But despite wins, Erik ten Hag‘s side has shown no real improvement in terms of dominating teams or showing forward steps in performances.

Now these performances have been called out, with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards both unimpressed by what they’ve seen.

This could be a concern for Ten Hag given the fact Sir Jim Ratcliffe will also be watching these performances closely.

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards give damning verdict on Manchester United

Speaking on Friday’s episode of The Rest is Football, both Lineker and Richards agreed with the current state of United.

Lineker began: “I’m not convinced though with United, Micah, are you? It’s not free flowing, they ground out the results by-in-large but I can see a bad spell coming.”

To this, Richards replied in agreement: “Yeah I would agree with you on that Gaz.

” I think analysing Man United and scrutinising all the time because of the size of them sometimes it’s a little bit of an over-reaction. They were in good form but even when they were winning those games it wasn’t like ‘Oh my god they look amazing, this is the style of play, this is how they’re playing like all their strikers are on absolute fire.

“[Rasmus] Hojlund was in good form as soon as he came out the team, the whole dynamic of the team changes and that’s when you look at a team.”

Erik ten Hag has work to do in order to impress Sir Jim Ratcliffe

It’s been said that Ineos will be making the decision over Ten Hag’s future not based on his league finish but rather if they feel he is the right man to take United forward.

So if everyone can see how poorly he’s setting the team up, you can be sure that the decision-makers will also see this which could be telling come May.

Therefore the Dutchman needs to change the way he is setting up this team and begin playing the kind of football that fans and undoubtedly the board want to see.

Three very important months coming up for United.
