Manchester United have had some legendary players over the years, but none may be more iconic than the formidable trio of George Best, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton.
Best, Law and Charlton are still hailed to this very day as some of Manchester United’s greatest-ever players, with the three forwards having their legacy cemented at the Red Devils in the form of a statue outside Old Trafford.
To have three players of this calibre to have played for the club is one thing, but the fact they all played at the same time is even more frightening.

Whilst it was naturally a burden for the opposition, it must’ve been great to have been their teammate. That in which one of Manchester United’s best-ever goalkeepers in Alex Stepney was.
Stepney had the pleasure of sharing the pitch with all three of the generational talents – but he believes one stood out among most.
Alex Stepney on Denis Law, Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best
Stepney exclusively spoke to United in Focus and got on to the topic of the threesome – to which he identified Best as a cut above the others, although they were all undeniable superstars.
“Not many players can say they played with three European footballers of the year for like seven years,” Stepney began. “They were three forwards, but they were three forwards in different positions.
“Dennis was a poacher. the ideal poacher that from the penalty spot into the six-yard box, anything that dropped anywhere he was on it. He could also head the ball. Just fantastic.

“You had Bobby who would score goals from 25 yards with rocket shots and beat players – even his fourth goal in the final was an incredible goal on the half volley. That was Bobby.
“But George – he was a different sort of player. He would beat around four or five players and then go back and try and beat them again! Then he’d put the ball in the back of the net,” Stepney explained. “He scored goals, right foot, left foot and header as well. He was a genius.”

George Best at Manchester United
Whilst Law and Sir Bobby had insane legacies at Manchester United – the sheer persona of Best, combined with his immense footballing talent has cemented himself as one of the all time greats in the eyes of many, Stepney included.

Best played 474 games for the club, scoring 179 goals – all whilst playing in numerous positions, which is even more impressive.
We won’t really see many like him again. Best, what a player.
