Manchester United were an injury blow when Lisandro Martinez had to be stretchered off in agony.
If losing to Crystal Palace wasn’t bad enough, matters got worse for Manchester United as Lisandro Martinez appeared to injury his knee again.
Two similar injuries kept Martinez out of action for most of last season and he could have done without a reoccurrence at a time when each player is trying to prove themselves to Ruben Amorim.
Unfortunately for Martinez, the Argentine had been finding immense form under Amorim, despite a rocky start to the campaign.
After United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, Amorim confirmed that Martinez had suffered a bad injury. It turns out Martinez has torn knee ligaments, although it is unclear which of the ligaments has been affected.

Casemiro sends supportive message to Lisandro Martinez
There is no denying that Martinez will be a huge miss in defence for United.
The World Cup winner is so important to United, even with the mentality he brings to the table.
Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Manuel Ugarte have already sent their best wishes to Martinez, but Casemiro wasn’t far behind with his Instagram story post on deadline day.
Casemiro wrote: “I love you bro! You’ll come back even stronger! Cheer up, friend.”
It can be a difficult time for a football when they have to spend months in the treatment room. Martinez will recover away from United’s first team and hope to be back in time for next season.
Manchester United lose star defender
This means United will be without one of their best defenders for the remainder of the season.
The club didn’t panic in the transfer market following Martinez’s injury by adding a new experience centre-back to the squad. Instead, United signed Ayden Heaven from Arsenal’s academy.
The injury to Martinez could free up some opportunities for Heaven, especially in the cup competitions, with United facing Leicester City in the FA Cup this weekend.
United also kept hold of Victor Lindelof who could get more game time as a result.
