Wayne Rooney has now suggested that he almost began a completely new shocking career path a few years ago.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has recently saw his latest managerial escapade end in failure after Birmingham City sacked him after just a few months.

This followed spells with both DC United in the States and also Derby County where he ended his playing career.

After such an incredible playing career, it is a shame to see him struggling as a boss and really he might be best served taking up a coaching role at United or something prior to taking a management job.

But Rooney’s future might not even lie within football, with his latest interview hinting at something completely different.

Wayne Rooney could undergo a massive career switch

While speaking on Stick to the Football, Rooney was being quizzed over his plans for the future. During this, Jamie Carragher asked the United great on with dream of being a lawyer which he’d mentioned years ago.

On this, Rooney said: “To be fair, it’s something which I’ve always watched and looked at as well and I remember when Colleen [Rooney] had the court case with Rebekah Vardy, I was there with the barrister, the lawyers. I was saying to the barrister ‘Look you’ve got to ask this question!’

“I did actually apply to Nottingham University, I applied to go in and to try and study, but then obviously I had to go away.”

Finally, Rooney was asked whether this was still something he’d keen on pursuing, to which he responded: “We’ll see what happens.”

A return to management remains more likely for the Manchester United great

While it would be a seriously impressive switch for Rooney to become a lawyer, it’s more likely that he finds himself back in a management role or coaching of some kind.

Although at just 38, Rooney may be better served learning at a big club before taking a leading position again.

This could be at Everton or even United where he could coach in the youth or even alongside Erik ten Hag with the first team.
