How United feel about paying compensation for a new manager with Erik ten Hag sacked gives big hint about their replacement plan

Manchester United have officially parted ways with Erik ten Hag as manager after nearly a whole season of rumours and scrutiny on the Dutchman.

The loss at West Ham United proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for Erik ten Hag and he will leave United in 14th place in the league table.

Combine that with 21st place in the Europa League table and his tenure had reached untenable status quickly as the season unraveled rapidly.

United confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy will take interim charge of the team while they work to appoint a permanent manager.

With no clear-cut standout candidate appearing right now after Thomas Tuchel took the England job, United might have to be ambitious and go for a coach in the job right now.

Man Utd stance on paying compensation

It was reported during the second international break that a factor keeping Ten Hag in the job was the large amount of compensation United would have to pay to dismiss him.

That is, of course, debunked by the club’s decision but the choice to keep the rest of the staff probably saved the club millions in their salaries.

However, if none of the candidates free on the market right now catch their fancy, they will have to expand their search for people already in a job.

That would require further compensation to buy out the candidate from his current job but it is a sign of United’s plans for a replacement that they are reportedly willing to do it.

TalkSport reports that United are not reticent about paying compensation if it would land them their preferred candidate for the role.

It means that their search will no longer be restricted to out-of-work managers and that is cause for great optimism among Man Utd fans.

Interesting candidates with expanded search

Now that United aren’t worried about paying a compensation, some interesting candidates are sure to enter the fray as potential replacements.

United have been linked to Thomas Frank in the past and they will only strengthen with this stance.

In addition, if they want a young, forward-thinking manager, they could go to Ipswich and buy out Kieran McKenna’s contract there.

Sporting Ruben Amorim’s in the picture while Julian Nagelsmann, currently at Germany, would probably be the dream candidate for many United fans.

This crop of names is much more exciting and ambitious than current out-of-work managers like Graham Potter, or Xavi Hernandez.

They will undoubtedly still be sounded out and talked to but if money is no object, and it shouldn’t be for a position as important as that of a United manager, then the club can afford to aim high.

Many would argue that the club messed by not sacking Ten Hag sooner but all is still not lost and the bigger decision to get right is who replaces him.

They’re off to a good start with this stance.
