How signing Harry Kane automatically makes United contenders

Manchester United look primed to make a move for Spurs forward Harry Kane in the upcoming transfer window.

Kane is amongst the most prolific goal scorers of his generation. The Englishman has scored 207 in 315 Premier League games, along with 46 assists.

He has long been linked with a move away from the club at which he made his name. However, no summer has looked more likely than this one.

His possible departure comes at a time when United are in desperate search of a number nine. The Red Devils have struggled with goals this season with Marcus Rashford having no help in that department.

It isn’t hard to see why, given the attacking options currently at Old Trafford. An ever-injured Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst leaves United desperately short.

To make the rumours even more audible, United fans chanted “see you in June” to Kane following Thursdays game. Kane acknowledged these chants responding by saying, “I heard what they were saying… But I’m just focused on this team and trying to finish [the season] strongly.”

How Kane turns United into title contenders

While United’s problems will take a lot more than just one man, that being said Kane fulfils so many needs on his own.

Starting with Bruno Fernandes, the un-official United captain has created 25 big chances in the league. These have only resulted in seven assists, six of which have been for Rashford.

Therefore it is evident that United need someone to put these chances away. That is where Kane steps in with his 24 league goals this season in a poor Spurs side.

Englands record scorer guarantees at least 20 goals per season which would go a long way in dragging United toward City and Arsenal.

Additionally Kane has the creative ability to contribute assists and create chances for Rashford and a much improved Antony too.

This is a relationship MUTV pundit Dion Dublin is excited to see. Following Kanes divine assist to Heung-Min Son, Dublin said:

“He likes that ball and he plays it very very well. I tell you what, Rashy will be getting on the end of them next season don’t you worry about that.”

Looking at United’s points dropped, there are a lot of games which could have been turned by some of these chances being converted.

Therefore if Kane signs, United should have enough to pose a serious threat to the league. A similar impact to that of Robin van Persie is likely, and he would undoubtedly be a huge success in Red.
