Manchester United take on West Ham at the London Stadium, looking to reverse an alarming trend.

Michael Carrick has risen to every challenge at Manchester United during his spell in charge of the club so far.

Carrick has won four out of four matches and is looking to win a fifth consecutive Premier League game.

This impactful achievement is dependent on Manchester United winning away at West Ham this week, overcoming a bad recent record at the London Stadium.

United have lost three consecutive games away at West Ham, with Erik ten Hag in charge for all three visits.

The last defeat there was the game that sparked Ten Hag’s sacking 24 hours later.

Michael Carrick is the key

The last time Manchester United won away at West Ham, Michael Carrick was in the visiting dugout as assistant manager.

The win came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and featured two dramatic incidents late in the game as United emerged 2-1 victors.

Jesse Lingard came off the bench to score a winner against the club where he was on loan months earlier.

United survived an even later scare when David de Gea saved a stoppage time penalty from Mark Noble, surprising fans after his Europa League Final woes between the sticks.

Cristiano Ronaldo had scored United’s opening goal in the 2-1 win, with the victory sparking wild celebrations at the full-time whistle.

Carrick was part of Solskjaer’s coaching staff, unaware that he would be asked to step in as caretaker manager just two months later.

2021/22 was an unhappy season for United, but the away win at West Ham came before the wheels began to fall off.

Carrick’s record vs West Ham as Man Utd player

Michael Carrick began his career at West Ham as a player, when the London club were playing at Upton Park.

He joined United from Tottenham in 2006, spending 12 successful years as a player.

During that time Carrick played against West Ham 20 times, winning 14, drawing three and losing three, scoring once.
