Manchester United have a defensive headache to deal with at the worst possible time.
The one positive lately from Manchester United’s dismal season was that the defensive injuries were beginning to clear up.
Now we are back at square one, with both Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw suffering muscle injuries in last night’s match with Bayern Munich.
There are no official injury timelines for either player yet, but Manchester United have to at least plan for both players to be out for this weekend’s match with Liverpool.

Worst injury timing
When you go to a stadium where you conceded seven goals last time, you want every possible player available, especially defenders.
Harry Maguire is the reigning Premier League player of the month, and his absence will be a blow. So too will Shaw’s if he is also ruled out.
So how will Manchester United do without the pair of England internationals at Anfield?
How Manchester United could line-up defence v Liverpool
Here is how we predict Manchester United will select the back four against Liverpool this coming Sunday.
- RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka
- CB: Raphael Varane
- CB: Victor Lindelof
- LB: Diogo Dalot
This is dependent on Victor Lindelof returning from the illness which prevented him making the bench against Bayern.
If he is not fit, then it will be Jonny Evans in his place.
The only other option United have to mix it up is to play Sergio Reguilon at left-back instead of Diogo Dalot.
Whether this United back four will be enough to withstand the Anfield onslaught, we will have to see. Watch if you dare.
