Rudi Garcia named his 26-man Belgium squad for the World Cup with several surprise exclusions, including Manchester United-linked Mika Godts, despite an impressive campaign at Ajax.
It will be a first major tournament for Belgium under Rudi Garcia, with the Frenchman’s contract expiring at the end of the 2026 World Cup.
Garcia isn’t as lucky as his predecessors, who had many of the current Belgium stars in their prime, as well as better players such as Eden Hazard, having retired.
There was good news for Senne Lammens with the United stopper getting his first call-up for a major tournament.

How much is Senne Lammens worth now?
Man Utd got a real bargain… how much of a bargain?
Man Utd could benefit from Mika Godts’ World Cup omission
The biggest omission in the Belgium squad is that of Ajax forward Mika Godts.
Godts, who has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, is joint-second in the Eredivisie scoring charts with 17 goals as well as 12 assists.
The 20-year-old has only two caps for the Belgium national team, so his objective will be to become part of the team ahead of Euro 2028.
However, if United are serious about signing Godts, they could benefit from the fact that he won’t be playing at the World Cup.
This opens the door for United to conduct a deal with Ajax at any stage of the summer because he won’t be tied up with international commitments during the World Cup.
Godts’ market value won’t rise during the tournament because he won’t be involved in the action.
Finally, Godts could get a full pre-season under his belt if a deal were to materialise in time.
There was room for former United striker Romelu Lukaku, despite the 33-year-old having had significant spells out through injury this season. It will be his fourth World Cup, which is quite an achievement.

Senne Lammens deserves call-up
Lammens is one of three goalkeepers called up to the Belgium squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois will go into the tournament as Belgium’s first-choice stopper.
However, Lammens could be called upon if Courtois is to sustain any injuries at the tournament.
Lammens deserves his call-up after an impressive debut season at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old will be playing in the Champions League next season.
