Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was on international duty for Cameroon last night.

A report from ESPN at the start of this month claimed Andre Onana was considering not going to the African Cup of Nations, to focus on his Manchester United form.

Well, for now he remains with the Cameroon squad, taking part in friendly matches. Which gives an indication he won’t be turning down an invitation to play at the AFCON in January.

After being an unused substitute in Cameroon’s match with Russia last week, Onana was back on the pitch last night.

Andre Onana suffers defeat

Andre Onana was back in the starting line-up for Cameroon in their friendly match with Senegal last night, which was played in France.

Onana suffered the taste of another defeat, with Senegal winning the game 1-0.

Former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane scored the winner, sending Onana the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Onana at least did not concede from open play. But it would have been better for his confidence if he had been on the winning side.

Still, a change of scenery may have done something positive for Onana’s mindset. He has been experiencing a difficult spell at Manchester United so far.

Altay Bayindir missed out on game time

Andre Onana’s deputy, Altay Bayindir, has had a mixed international break.

He was celebrating as Turkey booked their place at Euro 2024 by finishing top of their group. But he was not involved, just an unused substitute in both of their matches.

The former Fenerbahce goalkeeper is still waiting for his Manchester United debut.

If Andre Onana’s form does not improve, it could come sooner rather than later.
