How Amir Ibragimov fared on senior Russia debut vs Burkina Faso

Amir Ibragimov is concluding his 2025/26 campaign in Russia, representing his home nation at a senior level.

After another injury-ridden campaign for Manchester United, the stocks of Amir Ibragimov are not as high as they once were. This is due to his lack of football, so playing professionally for his country this month could be really important for his development.

Ibragimov was handed a Russia call-up for the end-of-season internationals, and he grabbed the opportunity to play some senior football and represent the nation of his birth.

This decision meant that Ibragimov has likely ditched representing England, and Friday night has seen him make his very first appearance for Russia.

Amir Ibragimov cameo appearance for Russia vs Burkina Faso

Ibragimov’s talent is never doubted; he is a phenomenal young footballer and has the potential to be a star in the future once he puts his injury issues behind him.

Against Burkina Faso, Ibragimov came off the bench in the 60th minute, playing on the right side, and he barely put a foot wrong.

Ibragimov completed 25 of his 26 attempted passes, while he also made one recovery and one clearance in Russia’s 3-0 win.

This was effectively Ibragimov’s senior debut, and he found himself up against seasoned professionals and managed to hold his own in front of a crowd of over 41,000.

Ibragimov became Russia’s third youngest debutant ever.

Russia faces Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, in which Ibragimov will be hoping to add another cap to his belt.

Ibragimov should be targeting Manchester United pre-season debut

The chance to play senior football for Russia is undoubtedly the biggest moment of Ibragimov’s young career, which had only seen youth football until this trip.

Russia have treated him like an absolute star acquisition for their squad, and he will have gained incredible experiences.

Ibragimov, therefore, needs to put this to good use over the summer during pre-season and make good on the opportunity he will surely have in the opening weeks under Michael Carrick, while the squad is light on players due to the World Cup.

This is a small sample size, but United can view it as a positive for Ibragimov, and it should aid his integration into senior football at a club level, whether that is on loan or at United.
