Amad Diallo started in the Ivory Coast’s win over Curacao at the World Cup.

As one of the main attacking threats in the Ivory Coast squad, Amad Diallo played on the opposing wing to the highly sought-after RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

The Ivory Coast went into the game against Curacao after winning their opening match against Ecuador, thanks to a match-winner from Amad, before suffering a defeat against Germany in the second group match.

That means the win over Curacao secures the Ivory Coast a place in the knockout phase of the 2026 World Cup, after finishing second in Group E. It’s the first time the African nation have progressed from the group stages.

Amad Diallo substituted at half-time

It was far from a thrilling encounter between the Ivory Coast and Curacao, but the better team won.

Nicolas Pepe opened the scoring in the 7th minute.

The game became a little flat after that point, though Curacao showed resilience to battle on.

United winger Amad only played the first half, meaning Ivory Coast coach Emerse Faé was mindful of keeping his star players for the knockout rounds.

Amad recorded more shots (3) than any other player on the pitch in the first half. He also had a pass success rate of 95%.

The 23-year-old touched the ball 35 times and made five recoveries to help out defensively.

The Ivory Coast kicked on in the second half to win the match 2-0 as Pepe completed a brace.

Tahith Chong impresses for Curacao

It was a magnificent achievement for Curacao to qualify for the World Cup, but they will now go home without winning a single match in the group stages.

Curacao’s best player on the night was former United midfielder Tahith Chong.

Chong showed great energy throughout the game to ensure Curacao kept competing with the Ivory Coast.

As a team, they lacked the quality to compete, but their reluctance to give up should be admired.
