Harry Maguire is a player scapegoated by Manchester United fans, and David Beckham thinks it has gotten too much.
Since his £80 million move, Harry Maguire has struggled with the weight of transfer fee and the weight of the captains armband.
This led to higher expectations which he couldn’t possibly fulfil, despite being solid for the first few years of his time at Old Trafford.
It is only in the last couple of years that he has caught a lot of flack from fans, as better players arrived, his level was discovered.
Many hoped he would be sold in the summer, but he refused to move, backing himself to be a success at United, but also due to financial reasons.
But now he has got the backing of a Manchester United legend.

David Beckham backs Maguire
Speaking on the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, David Beckham was the special guest.
“Harry’s just to keep doing what he’s doing, at the end of the day he’s got to focus on football which he does,” the club legend said.
Beckham continued, “He’s a good lad, he’s had a great career, has the criticism gotten too much? I think it has.”
With playing time reduced the slander on Maguire has also reduced as he regularly now gets applauded at Old Trafford, something he isn’t used to.
Maguire has been improving
After Beckham’s support, no doubt Maguire will get a boost in his confidence.
But even before this, he has played well this season, primarily against Crystal Palace in the League Cup.
Here he was unbeatable and was great in possession too, showing there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Maguire.
