Manchester United battled to a hard fought victory over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup last night.

It was a late goal that defeated Manchester United at the weekend against Fulham. This time around a late winner earned an important win over Nottingham Forest.

Casemiro‘s header secured a 1-0 win and set up an exciting FA Cup quarter-final for Manchester United against Liverpool next month.

The Brazilian, understandably, will get the plaudits for his late winner. But there was also a strong defensive display on show from the Red Devils.

Wes Brown praises Manchester United defenders for praise

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown picked out the two centre-backs for praise after the team’s win at the City Ground.

Praising Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof, Brown said he was impressed with the duo.

Speaking post-game to MUTV, he said: “I think the two centre backs were pretty solid.

“And what I mean by that is at a time where they was under pressure, anything that sort of came in within the box, we blocked, we got rid of it, and sometimes that’s what you want from your centre-backs, to get rid of it.

“I thought they dealt with pretty much everything today.”

Lindelof has filled in at left-back recently, and will have welcomed the opportunity to play in the centre-back role again.

Brown also praised Casemiro

Former United star Brown also had positive words for match winner Casemiro, who he believes could be coming into form.

He said: “Listen, he’s class. Casemiro has been injured. It has took him a couple of games to get back into his rhythm. And you know that some players you have to do that. But ultimately, you know, he’s got a world of experience. He knows what to do. And when he’s had a few games, you know, even pull out a goals, getting himself in situations like that.

“And today again, no one in particular was brilliant, but he didn’t lose concentration. He kept going and was in the right spot when needed.”

This was Casemiro’s fifth goal of the season and first of 2024. Let’s hope he is in position to bag another vital winner away at City at the weekend.
