Manchester United players must learn from Scott McTominay ahead of the Red Devils’ clash against Bayern Munich, according to Ally McCoist.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United head into the clash at Old Trafford against Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich knowing that anything but a win would end the Red Devils’ chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray would need to draw their game and United would have to win otherwise it will be Europa League football or no European football in the new year.

One player could be crucial against Bayern at Old Trafford tonight and that man is Scott McTominay, who was brilliant against Chelsea last week.

McCoist on McTominay

Speaking to The Sun, and TNT Sports, Scottish pundit Ally McCoist believes United have to rely on McTominay and he could be the key to beating the Bavarian side.

“With where Man Utd are right now, McTominay is a key part of Man Utd,” McCoist said. “The way he plays the game, the goals he’s been chipping in with, he’s a hardworking boy that appreciates where he is and relishes the fact he’s playing at Man Utd.

“He runs about, he gets on the end of things. I think he had six good attempts at goal against Chelsea… that’s just a desire to run about and get into the box.

“The biggest compliment I can pay to someone like McTominay is I think he’s a throwback. And when I say throwback, I mean old school.”

The midfielder has been reliable for the Red Devils over the past few weeks but looked to be struggling against Bournemouth as the 26-year-old was hounded by the press from the South Coast side.

McTominay’s chance to prove doubters wrong

The midfielder, despite his five Premier League goals for the Red Devils this season, has struggled to retain the faith with the Old Trafford faithful but he has a chance to do exactly that.

McTominay looks set to start the game in the engine room for the Red Devils, despite Kobbie Mainoo impressing in one of his two starts against Everton.

If the midfielder does what he did best against Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, McTominay could be vital for the Red Devils and finally justify why Ten Hag trusts the 26-year-old so much.
