Henrik Larsson played with some of the greatest footballers of all time during his career following spells at Barcelona and Manchester United.

Although Henrik Larsson is considered one of the greatest players in Celtic’s history, the Swedish centre-forward enjoyed stints in England and Spain.

Larsson was playing for his hometown club, Helsingborg, in 2007 when he joined Manchester United during the off-season.

The loan deal lasted just 10 weeks, and Sir Alex Ferguson took the opportunity to sign the experienced striker after injuries to Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Which one striker at their peak would you re-sign for Manchester United right now?

Larsson received a standing ovation in the United dressing room following his 13th and final appearance for the club. He previously spoke highly about his time at Old Trafford in an interview with The Guardian, saying: “When I joined Manchester United, my brother Kim had a christening for one of his boys.

“I asked Sir Alex if it was possible. He arranged a private jet for me to get home after the game. I was only there for 10 weeks but he made me feel so welcome.”

For those who fondly remember Larsson’s three goals for United, the 54-year-old features as the special guest on the latest episode of The Overlap, with stories from his short spell at Old Trafford.

Henrik Larsson hails Wayne Rooney

Larsson scored 498 career goals for club and country, proving himself to be one of the most prolific goal scorers of his generation.

The Celtic legend joined Barcelona for two seasons, winning La Liga twice and the Champions League, with two assists in the final.

Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap, Larsson was asked to name the three best players he shared the dressing room with.

Larsson picked one player from each of his time at Celtic, Barcelona, and United.

Ronaldinho and Chris Sutton got the nod from Larsson, who went on to pick Wayne Rooney over Xavi, Andreas Iniesta, and Paul Scholes.

“Ooh, three best players,” Larsson said.

“I have to say, yeah, Ronaldinho, obviously. Then I’m going to throw Chris Sutton in there.

“Should I pick Xavi, Iniesta, Scholes, Rooney? It’s a difficult one.

“Yeah, okay. But I’m thinking, then I say Rooney because I like him.”

Will Benjamin Sesko WIN the “Sesko vs Hojlund” debate?

Is there even a debate to be had or has he already won it?

Rooney is United’s record scorer with 253 goals, so I don’t think Larsson will have too many complaints over his choice.

Why did Henrik Larsson leave Man Utd?

Ferguson admitted at the time he wanted to keep Larsson at Old Trafford because of the impact he had at the club.

After his final appearance for United, it is believed that the dressing room gave him a standing ovation, even though the spell came towards the latter stages of his playing career.

Larsson insisted on returning to Sweden despite attempts from United to keep the striker.

This was one of the few regrets from Larsson’s career.
