Harry Maguire was heavily linked with a departure in the summer, now former United defender Steve Bruce has had his say.
Manchester United‘s former captain, Harry Maguire saw his move to West Ham fall through as he demanded a pay-off from his current club.
This in many ways was a terrible decision by the England international as he finds himself well down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
With the European Championships next summer, game-time is of the upmost importance for Maguire if he is to be on top form for these.
This has left many to remain in the belief that he needs to make a move, now former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce has had his say.
Bruce on Maguire
Speaking on the Up Front Pod with Simon Jordan, Bruce explained his views on Maguire’s situation.
“He needs to go and find his career again and he needs to feel respected.”
Continuing, Bruce made his pick of the ideal destination for Maguire.
“I thought with David Moyes in charge at West Ham that it would have been a really good fit.”
Bruce then admitted he would have left had he been in the boots of Maguire last summer.
“I personally think that I would have moved on because once the manager has showed his cards and made it clear that you won’t be playing then you need to move on.”
Bruce on the abuse aimed at the defender
Bruce continued to discuss the abuse which Maguire receives and suggested it’s the worst he has seen.
“I think the abuse of Harry Maguire has gotten to a level that I don’t think any of us have ever seen before.
“He’s always the subject of frustration from Manchester United supporters whenever he makes a mistake.”
Obviously the abuse is terrible, and many professionals and ex-professionals have spoken out on this.
So it does seem to make sense that he leaves the club in the next few windows.
