Ben Foster has insisted that there is an obvious quick-fix solution for Ruben Amorim on the transfer market after name-checking one Manchester United-linked player.
Ruben Amorim has received a major boost at Manchester United in the summer window after the signings of Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Bryan Mbeumo.
The 40-year-old United manager has been improving the quality of his Red Devils first-team squad amid the Premier League club’s pre-season campaign this summer.
Amorim largely inherited the majority of his United squad during the 2024-25 Premier League season after he replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford hot seat.
However, the former Sporting CP coach is still expected to welcome new signings at United ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season and before the window shuts.
United have been linked with defensive midfielders, strikers and shot-stoppers amid the Red Devils’ pursuit to bolster key positions within Amorim’s first-team squad.

Why Ben Foster has singled out Newcastle star Nick Pope amid Man Utd’s transfer interest
Nick Pope has attracted Manchester United’s interest in recent weeks and the Red Devils could target the 33-year-old Newcastle shot-stopper in the transfer window.
The Newcastle star is under contract until 2026 at St James’ Park, but it is believed that the Magpies could let him leave for a fee between £10m and £15m.
Nick Pope’s future at the Premier League club has been plunged into doubt after Newcastle signed Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton in a loan deal this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, former United player Ben Foster fully believes that Nick Pope should be an option that the Red Devils consider in the window.
“Manchester United are crying out for a goalkeeper, absolutely crying out for a goalkeeper,” he said on The Cycling GK podcast.
“Honestly, you’d do so much worse than getting Nick Pope. Man United don’t necessarily just go all-out play straight from the back; that’s not their style anyway.
“I think Nick Pope can still play out from the back, by the way. I’m not demeaning him; he can still play out from the back.
“But if you’re looking to get it to the forward areas as quickly as possible, Nick Pope is your boy. And he will stop goals, it’s as simple as that.”
Ben Foster’s reaction to Andre Onana’s setback at Man Utd amid Newcastle shot-stopper Nick Pope attracting interest
Foster said that the verdict is still out on the long-term future of Andre Onana at Old Trafford and the United No 1 could be impacted by missing out on pre-season.
“Onana’s had this big injury at the start of pre-season, he’s looking like he’ll only get back fit maybe just for the start of the season,” he explained.
“But you don’t want that from your goalkeeper, you want him to have had four, five pre-season games under his best, weeks and weeks of training, get that into the legs.
“And there [were] also a lot of questions raised at the end of last season thinking [that] he will probably not be the first-choice goalkeeper.”
Andre Onana missed all three matches of the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of the United States and was ruled out of action after a hamstring injury in training.
