Former Manchester United youngster Harvey Neville has made his Major League Soccer debut.
Neville is the son of former United Treble winner Phil Neville, who is the current Inter Miami manager after being appointed by club owner David Beckham.
Harvey Neville was with Manchester United’s under-23 side until the end of the 2020/21 season, when he made the switch to start training with Inter Miami.
Harvey Neville makes MLS debut
Harvey Neville spent the past year playing for Inter Miami II, who play in MLS Next Pro, the third tier of US soccer.
In August he was promoted to Inter Miami’s first team, where he has a contract running until the end of 2024, with options to extend by a further two seasons if the club wish.
At the weekend he made his debut in Inter Miami’s 3-1 defeat to Montreal, replacing US international and former Tottenham and Newcastle defender DeAndre Yedlin in the 79th minute.
Former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs was also among the substitutes, while Gonzalo Higuain started up front.
Despite the defeat, Inter Miami are in sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference and have made the play-offs.
While unlikely Neville will be a starter any time soon, he is getting closer, and making his debut for the club was a good first step.
The 20-year-old defender has previously represented Republic of Ireland at youth international level.
He made 28 appearances for Manchester United’s academy at under-18s, under-21s and in the UEFA Youth League, scoring once.
