Harry Maguire is one of the first-team players at Manchester United who is currently set to see his contract expire at the end of this season.

While Casemiro has already announced his departure from Manchester United, for Harry Maguire, there is still very much a chance he remains.

Maguire has become very important under Michael Carrick, which has proved that letting him go could be a real risk, given that he is still a quality footballer and defender.

Since Carrick arrived, Maguire has started every game, putting in stellar performances in each to make himself undroppable alongside Lisandro Martinez.

Carrick has wanted Maguire to stay at Old Trafford; now the chances of this happening have improved.

Harry Maguire set to be offered a new contract at Manchester United

Maguire is 32 years old and will be 33 by the time the season ends, which means he was far from guaranteed a new deal, especially given he earns roughly £190k-a-week.

This is a lot for a player with his injury record and age, and a new contract would have to reflect this.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Maguire is now looking increasingly likely to sign a new contract with United, having turned a blind eye to other club’s interest in hopes of staying at Old Trafford.

The report explains that Maguire’s situation is different to Casemiro’s with the Brazilian definitely leaving, but the English centre-back is set to be offered a new deal after his form under Carrick.

The two parties are hoping to reach an agreement over Maguire’s new salary and length of the extension, which will be key given his age and lack of availability.

Maguire is highly-rated by Carrick and his leadership qualities are massively appreciated by the club.

Harry Maguire has completed an incredible turnaround at United

Two and a half years ago, Maguire was United’s most criticised player, with Erik ten Hag stripping him of the captaincy and trying to force the defender out of the club.

Maguire was frequently booed by his own fans, but over the past two seasons in particular, Maguire has staged a comeback, making himself a cult hero at the club.

Ruben Amorim made Maguire key, handing the defender an extension last January and since then he has continued to be a star for United.

So a new deal is definitely the correct call, even if he doesn’t play as much, Maguire’s dressing room impact will be key with Casemiro leaving.

Maguire’s mental strength has to be applauded and this contract shows he has completed the turnaround and should now see his career out with United.
