Phil Jones ranks in the top 100 Manchester United appearance makers of all time, with 229 in total. The figure could have been a lot higher, if not for a succession of injuries.
A number of former and current teammates reached out to Jones on Instagram to wish him all the best.
These included Scott McTominay, who hailed Jones as a ‘legend’, Brandon Williams, and Harry Maguire. Ex-teammates Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira also reached out.

Erik ten Hag on Phil Jones
Current manager Erik ten Hag was asked about Phil Jones at his press conference on Friday.
It was put to him that he had worked with the defender, but he was keen to point out that it was only brief, with Jones suffering an injury in his first training session back in July.
He told the club website: “Yes, 20 minutes first training of the year! But, I think he has a great career, what he achieved, winning the Premier League, winning the FA Cup, winning the Europa League, being present at two World Cups, a massive career at Man United. So, all the credit for his career.”
