Harry Maguire 'liked' Cristiano Ronaldo post 'in error'
Harry Maguire has responded after receiving criticism online after ‘liking’ a social media post about Cristiano Ronaldo.
United fans were left bemused after Maguire’s Instagram account ‘liked’ a post which said Ronaldo was unhappy his wages would be reduced after the club failed to finish in the top four.

BBC Sport reported Maguire’s social media activity was not intentional.
The report states: “It was not entirely clear whether Maguire was equally unhappy or having some fun at his team-mate’s expense because the remaining 75% means Ronaldo is ‘only’ getting around £360,000-a-week. However, BBC Sport has been told Maguire liked the story in error and it has now been removed.”
Embarrassing for United
Maguire himself may not have been responsible for this. It could have been down to his social media team. But that cuts little ice.
This is yet another case of Manchester United players embarrassing themselves on social media, needlessly.
New manager Erik ten Hag is unlikely to be at all amused.
Ronaldo has not yet returned to training and is seeking an exit, with it unclear whether he will be on the club’s pre-season tour.
Maguire meanwhile is fighting to retain his captaincy. With United looking to sign another centre-back, Lisandro Martinez, the case to keep the armband on Maguire is weakened, as he may not be an automatic choice.
He hasn’t done himself any favours here either. At best this is clumsy, and at worst it is childish. The Mirror reported last season that Maguire and Ronaldo were at the centre of a dressing room split.
