Harry Maguire was booed by England fans at Wembley this week as his season from hell continued.
Maguire has struggled for form in 2021/22, and there have been few darker days than the away game against Leicester in October.

United lost the game 4-2 despite taking an early lead, returning from the October international break in miserable form, which culminated in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking a few weeks later.
Maguire’s worst ever game
Maguire had entered the weekend half-fit after picking up a knock with England. In typical Solskjaer fashion, the manager picked him regardless, such was his blind loyalty towards his club captain.
It was Maguire who let Leicester back into the game, hesitating when passed the ball in the final third, losing possession, allowing Youri Tielemans to score.
By half-time it became clear Maguire was not fully fit, and yet, he was kept on.
United ended up losing 4-2 with Maguire at least partly culpable for all four goals, losing his marker, and looking clearly off the pace.
To put in a performance like that in front of fans and ex-teammates at his former club would have been especially galling.
The fallout only made it worse. Maguire’s selection and poor display was cited as a contributory factor in the favouritism row which saw some players turn against Solskjaer.
The Telegraph reported Eric Bailly ‘openly challenged’ then boss Solskjaer and asked the manager “why he picked a centre-half who was not fit. It was a fair question.

A chance to atone
It has been a long season and United now come up against Leicester this weekend at Old Trafford.
The whole team will be looking to make up for the poor defeat against them last time, and kick on in general, but none more so than Maguire.
The captain has a point to prove, particularly so after the boos with England this week.
A strong performance in this match is the perfect way for Maguire to respond, and atone for his poor display several months ago.
It is also a chance to move forward and draw a line in the sand, hopefully to end the season strongly. Maguire and United can still challenge to secure a Champions League spot, and three points is essential.
