Harry Maguire believes his Man United record ‘speaks for itself’ in impassioned defence against critics

Harry Maguire has launched an impassioned defence against his Manchester United critics after his recent renaissance in Erik ten Hag’s team.

It looked for all the world like Harry Maguire was not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at Manchester United but, due to injuries, he has seemingly forced his way back into the first team.

The Englishman has come into the side and has looked superb, adding confidence and security to a side that has lacked it throughout this turbulent start to the season.

Maguire has spoken to The Sun whilst on international duty with England under Gareth Southgate and has seemingly tried to prove his doubters wrong.

Maguire on his winning record

The English defender has featured in most of United’s wins this season, whether that’s off the bench or starting, and believes that his involvement in these wins speaks for themselves and believes he can’t carry on playing a game a month.

“I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month,” Maguire admitted. “If it carries on I am sure myself and the club will sit down and have a chat about things.

“If you look back on my last 15-20 starts for club and country, I would be happy to sit here and say I’m really happy with my performances.

“My record under this manager speaks for itself. I haven’t started as many games as I like but my win percentage when I’ve played is ridiculously high.”

Maguire’s confident rebuttal

It’s fair to say the Englishman clearly believes in his own abilities and why not. The former Leicester City man was widely praised for his performance during last Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford.

So much so that Maguire admitted that Ten Hag told him “Really well done”, this has to be a turning point for the 30-year-old with Lisandro Martinez out of the side with a long-term injury.

Maguire certainly believes in himself which has been criticised but you need that in a defender. To have confidence in your own abilities when things are getting tough, especially at Old Trafford, is crucial.
