Harry Kane has been talking up ‘quality’ Manchester United star for years

Manchester United are being strongly linked with Harry Kane and his relationship with Marcus Rashford could be key.

Manchester United have sights set on two expensive contracts this summer, according to The Sun. One is a big extension for Marcus Rashford, and the other is part of a package to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham.

The relationship between the pair could be key to their success at Old Trafford. They have grown up in the same era for the England international team, and Kane was keen to welcome Rashford before he had even touched down with the squad.

Kane has been talking up Rashford for years and they have been an effective fit on and off the pitch together, helping to set the culture of the England squad under Gareth Southgate.

Harry Kane praised Rashford after his breakthrough for Manchester United in 2016, after he was called into the Egland squad.

The striker told the Independent: “He’s been outstanding. Full credit to him, he deserves his place. We are looking forward to meeting him when he reports next week, seeing his ability.”

Kane was certainly impressed. Reflecting on his time with Rashford in 2020 he told the Star: “Marcus is a great player – we’ve obviously spent a lot of time together with England and you can see the quality he has with the ball, his finishing and his all-round game really.”

The pair have now played at two World Cups together, with Kane top scoring for England in 2018 and Rashford in 2022. Kane said on Instagram after the win over Senegal in Qatar: “Marcus is on fire”.

The pair fit well together on the pitch too. Harry Kane likes to drop deep and join the build-up, enabling Rashford to join the central area.

They know each other’s game from England, but have only been able to feature together sporadically. If given the chance to work together on a weekly basis, club and country stand to benefit.

There will be no settling in period for Kane either. He knows the Premier League and won’t require several months to adjust. It could be a very sensible deal if United can get it done at a reasonable price.
