Hannibal Mejbri started his second game in four days as Manchester United advanced into the next round of the Carabao Cup.
The Tunisian midfielder was a bit hit-and-miss on the night but the former AS Monaco man has undoubtedly become a fixture in the Manchester United Team.
Mejbri has this confidence and the front to challenge players if he gets kicked, something that he has become used to during his academy days at the club.
Playing alongside Mason Mount, the pair had the freedom to create and both looked dangerous when in position or on the half turn, in Mount’s case.
Mejbri’s message and Dan Gore’s response
Following the convincing win over Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace, Mejbri posted a message on his social media page following the win in the third round of the competition.
Mejbri, on his Instagram page, said: “clean sheet at home, onto the next round.”
Dan Gore, who made his debut for the senior team following a few promising cameos during pre-season, responded to the Tunisian’s post and said: “My boy.”
The pair have had a close relationship during their days together in the academy and you wonder if the youngsters could be blooded into the team as the season progresses.
Gore’s chance
The midfielder certainly looked promising during pre-season and it’s easy to see why Gore could be the exact type of midfielder that Ten Hag has been looking for.
The midfielder’s low centre of gravity, his confidence on the ball and his willingness to play forward will certainly please the Dutchman who has had his fair share of talented young midfielders during his time at Ajax.
Mejbri, too, has also shown the grit and determination that Ten Hag wants in his midfielders. You wonder if Gore and Mejbri could be the midfield replacements for Fred and Scott McTominay, Mejbri in particular could be a player deployed during certain matches of huge importance.
