Hannibal Mejbri became the 16th Manchester United player to get a World Cup call-up having been named in Tunisia’s 26-man squad.

The 19-year-old, who is spending the season on loan at Championship side Birmingham City, was included in Jalel Kadri’s squad.

The former Monaco starlet, who will be participating in a World Cup for the first time, will be looking to build on the 18 caps he’s already amassed for the Eagles of Carthage.

Tunisia have been drawn in Group D alongside reigning world champions France, Denmark and Australia.

Hannibal could come up against Manchester United teammates Raphael Varane and Christian Eriksen in Qatar.

Tunisia’s opening World Cup games sees them face Eriksen’s Danes in eight days time.

The teenager is the youngest Manchester United player to be named in a World Cup squad and he’ll arrive in the Middle East in peak condition with a wealth of matches at senior first team level under his belt.

Hannibal has featured in all 15 of Birmingham’s matches since making the move to St Andrew’s and after slowly acclimatising and being integrated into Championship football, Birmingham’s number six has started eight of the Blues’ last nine matches.

Having been a regular in the Tunisia squad when he was playing at under-21 level for the Red Devils, Hannibal will be hoping that his regular game time in the second tier of English football gives him a chance of starting games at the World Cup.

The talented all-action midfielder started every match of Tunisia’s run to the FIFA Arab Cup final last winter.

Playing in the biggest sporting tournament on the planet will be a great experience for the France-born wonderkid, and Hannibal will no doubt be wanting to leave his mark on the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
