Glazer damage spelled out as player signed by Ten Hag breaks cover on takeover impacting Man Utd team

Manchester United are being impacted by the off-field saga overshadowing the Red Devils right now.

The Glazers invited offers for a takeover last November, and despite hope this could be resolved early in 2023, it was now dragged on for a full 12 months.

The team’s form has badly regressed as the season has gone on, and a player who was in the dressing room until a few months ago has admitted the uncertainty has caused problems for the squad.

The comments were made by Marcel Sabitzer, a player signed on loan by Erik ten Hag in January. After his loan expired in the summer he signed with Borussia Dortmund.

Marcel Sabitzer speaks out

Marcel Sabitzer spoke to The Athletic to explain his perspective on the issues troubling Manchester United right now.

He pointed to injuries as a main reason, along with the usual ‘noise’ and pressure which always surrounds Manchester United, and also picking out the takeover situation and uncertainty.

Sabitzer said: “You ask yourself, ‘what’s going on?’ There’s a lot of noise, results are not good, they’ve had defeats at home, which almost felt unthinkable last season.

“And there’s still the unresolved situation of the ownership. You can see what that does to a team.”

We are witnessing right now what it can do. The club were given very limited funds in the summer to do business, and there was no leadership to effectively spend the money which was there.

Off the pitch there have been some issues too, and most of all, Manchester United are seen to be lacking direction.

All the positive progress and momentum from the start of 2023 has stagnated. The fault of this can be laid at the Glazers.

Sabitzer’s comments prove that this situation does impact the dressing room, and goes some way to explaining what we have seen on the pitch this season.

There may be some hope ahead

It is reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe intends to purchase 25 per cent of the club. The Glazers are now not willing to accept a full takeover, despite having strung everybody along over the past year.

This is not ideal, but BBC Sport report Ratcliffe is demanding control of football operations. This provides some hope, that there will be fresh ideas and new faces behind the scenes.

This does provide some hope for supporters. Some investments and fresh ideas coming into the club is better than the current situation, which clearly needs an overhaul.
