Giuseppe Rossi says he played with two ‘ballers’ at Man Utd who people ‘forget about’

Giuseppe Rossi has praised two former Manchester United players he feels are underappreciated, despite having incredibly successful careers at Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United striker arrived with great promise in the academy, but never fully secured a place in the first team due to the intense competition for places under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Giuseppe Rossi joined United’s academy from Parma at the age of 17 in 2004. He won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2005 and the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year in 2006.

The Italian made his first team debut in a League Cup match, but went on to score four goals in 14 senior appearances for the club. It was difficult for any young striker to break into the team at the time because the squad had players like Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney.

However, Rossi’s first Premier League match was one to remember as he came off the bench to score in a 3-1 win over Sunderland.

Rossi would join Villarreal on a permanent deal in 2007 following a successful loan at Parma.

Giuseppe Rossi hails Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs

Rossi has been reflecting on his time at United.

During a conversation with former United goalkeeper Ben Foster, Rossi revealed how he was blown away by the ability Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs had when he first joined the club.

Rossi even hints that both players are underappreciated because ‘people forget about them’.

“Scholes and Giggs were crazy when I arrived when I was 17 years old, man,” Rossi told Foster on the Fozcast.

“Crazy, crazy, crazy players. People forget about them, man.

“People forget about them, but they were ballers.”

Giggs is the most decorated footballer in English football, while Scholes will be remembered as one of the greatest United midfielders of all time.

They both spent over 20 years at United and won everything under Ferguson.

Giuseppe Rossi blames ‘horrible’ Carlos Queiroz for Man Utd exit

Interestingly, Rossi gave a damning assessment of United’s former assistant manager Carlos Queiroz.

Would Karim Adeyemi be a good signing for Manchester United?

The former United striker claims Ferguson wanted to keep him at the club, but Queiroz warned him that he would get no minutes if he stayed.

“And if you guys want the details, I’ll give it to you,” Rossi added.

“We had Carlos Queiroz. Do you remember Queiroz? Yeah. Horrible person. Horrible person.

“I came back from a stint at Parma where I scored nine goals in 18 games. I was 19 years old. I was killing it. I did it great. And I came back with more energy. I’m like, hey, listen, I’m going to start fighting for some minutes because I think I deserve them after what I did.

“So pre-season goes by, et cetera, et cetera. I’m doing well. He takes me to the side. He’s like, you’re not going to get no minutes. Don’t tell your father, because my father used to follow me everywhere I went. So he knew that I would always, that he was my right-hand man.

“He didn’t want me to say nothing to my father. He’s like, don’t tell your father, but you’re not going to really get any minutes over here. So I think you should be looking somewhere else.

“So that kind of confused me, because talking to Sir Alex, he wanted to keep me. So that was a time where Quieroz had a certain power, and unfortunately, I was on the wrong end of that.”
