Giorgio Chiellini was an absolute quality defender, who has recently revealed he had a soft spot for a certain Manchester United player.

Chiellini was one of the world’s greatest centre-backs not too long ago. During his time a Juventus, he formed a formidable partnership with Leonardo Bonucci that went down as one of the most legendary defensive partnerships in the club’s history.

He retired from international football last year but is currently living life in Los Angeles, still employed by LAFC in the MLS where he’s spending the last few years of his career.

Could he have ever been swayed to come to Manchester United? Well, he was a fan of one player and even had to pull the trigger and buy his shirt.

Giorgio Chiellini on Roy Keane

Whilst in LA, Classic Football Shirts hosted a pop-up store, which consisted of thousands of iconic football jerseys throughout the years.

YouTuber Ellis Platten of the Away Days Channel decided to invite Chiellini down to the event and interviewed him for a series called ‘Shirt Shopping’ where the footballer will pick out a few jerseys to eventually buy.

One of the first shirts that took the Italian veteran’s interest was the Manchester United 1994 home shirt, which had legendary midfielder Roy Keane’s name on the back.

“If I find, not my idol, but one player I always liked was Roy Keane,” Chiellini began.

“Yeah, Roy Keane, sometimes he was too tough, but it’s someone that could really show the emotion of play.”

He then picked up his iconic shirt and placed it in Ellis’ arms, keen on making a purchase.

At the end of the video, Chiellini was tasked with picking up just three shirts he would like to purchase from his shopping trip. He decided that Roy Keane’s was one of his favourites and decided to even put it on.

It was the “perfect size” according to Chiellini, and we have to say, he does look good in a Manchester United jersey…
